Mobile phone providers instructed to provide clearer bills

Great Britain’s mobile phone telecommunications chairman recently declared that he would like mobile phone businesses to produce increased clarity for customers to avoid unexpected bills. The statement covered all mobiles phone contracts, including pay monthly, pay as you go and SIM only deals.

The reason for the announcement was because year on year mobile phone clients across the county receive large bills for their mobile phone usage that include unexpected inclusions of additional minutes, text and data that the user may have incurred over their inclusive package.

As more and more people becoming wise to these unexpected bills, mobile phone companies are seeing an increase in sim only contracts, as these particular contracts minimize the bills issued each month.

The main issue with the escalating bills is because many people are getting carried away with the usage of their mobile internet. It’s amazing how quickly you can rack up hours of browsing time, and as a result roll over the allocated data allowance, resulting in additional costs. Even so called ‘limitless’ data plans do have a limit in the small print, just a very high one. Still one you exceed it you will incur and additional charge.

The telecommunications chairman announced that even though the mobile phone companies are not doing anything wrong with their limitless data deals, they could still be more transparent with the details of the top limit of the usage. He stated that people are increasing watching videos on sites such as YouTube and downloading software and games, both of which rapidly consume their data allowance.

He suggested that mobile phone providers should do three things. Firstly they should make the limit of the allowance obvious in their terms; secondly they should send a text to the user when they are nearing their limit so that they are aware, and thirdly that they suggest certain types of high consumption programmes aren’t downloaded.
